Englewood sits between Sarasota and Punta Gorda along the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway, offering small-town charm with big-nature vibes. Just minutes from Manasota Key, the area is surrounded by protected coastline, quiet waterways, and plenty of space to slow down. Once rooted in commercial fishing, Englewood has grown into a warm, welcoming community known for world-class fishing, local arts, friendly neighborhoods, and accessible Florida golf courses.

Its biggest draw is the water, with four protected beaches, excellent shelling, regular dolphin sightings, and some of the prettiest Gulf sunsets you’ll ever see. Add in scenic parks, kayak trails, and the charming Englewood downtown, and it’s easy to understand why so many people fall in love with this laid-back coastal town.

Beaches & Coastal Parks (Englewood, Florida Attractions)

There’s no question that Englewood’s biggest draw is its pristine coastline. Manasota Key is home to four state-protected beaches, all accessible by just two bridges and carefully preserved year-round.

Stump Pass Beach State Park

Located at the southern tip of Manasota Key, Stump Pass Beach State Park is one of Englewood’s most scenic natural areas. The shoreline is largely undeveloped, giving it a peaceful, Old Florida feel, and the park also features nature trails that wind through mangroves and coastal hammock.

While the tourists haven’t yet caught on to this stunning piece of paradise, the locals love Stump Pass for the quiet beaches, excellent shelling and shark tooth hunting, and especially the sunsets. It’s one of Florida’s most beautiful state parks and is known as one of the best fishing spots in Charlotte County.

The park sits at 900 Gulf Boulevard on Manasota Key and stretches along three islands on the county’s shoreline. There is a small entry fee (typically $3–$6 per vehicle), and is open daily from 8:00 am until sunset.

Englewood Beach

Englewood Beach is the area’s main public beach and one of the most recognizable Englewood, Florida, attractions. It’s a popular gathering spot in town, thanks to its calm waters, soft sand, picnic areas, playparks, and beachfront dining that make it easy to spend the whole day here. Many people enjoy spending the day on the sand and then walking straight to dinner or sunset drinks at the range of Tiki bars or restaurants nearby.

Englewood Beach is located at the south end of Manasota Key. Beach access is free, with paid parking nearby, and it’s open from sunrise to sunset.

Blind Pass Beach

Blind Pass Beach offers a quieter alternative to some of the busier shoreline areas on Manasota Key. At just over an acre in size, this park is small but mighty – serving up some stunning nature and an authentic island experience.  

The area has extreme tides, which make for great shelling, but swimming is at your own risk because there are no lifeguards here. The beach is free to access from sunrise to sunset, but the limited parking spaces do cost $5 per hour, and trucks and RVs are not permitted. We love that even though it’s a small park, it is ADA accessible and has restrooms available. If you’re interested in things to do near Englewood, FL, that feel uniquely local, this is a great spot to explore.

Along this stretch, you can also spot the historic Hermitage Artist Retreat, a cluster of Old Florida cottages that host visiting artists and musicians for creative residencies. While not open to the public, it adds character to the shoreline, reflects the area’s innovative spirit, and serves as a nice symbol of the local ecological work the project supports.

Manasota Beach

Just north of Englewood, Manasota Beach is another favorite for those looking for broad sandy areas and fewer crowds. Manasota Beach is located at 8570 Manasota Key Road, approximately 20 20-minute drive from Venice, with excellent signage so you can easily find your way there from any direction.

The beach is free to visit and offers parking, restrooms, showers, picnic areas, grills, boat ramps, and lifeguards on duty during peak times.

Water Adventures & Englewood Fishing

With beaches this beautiful, it’s no surprise that many of Englewood’s favorite activities take place just beyond the shoreline. Life in Englewood is deeply tied to the water, making boating and fishing everyday activities rather than occasional splurges.

Boating & Boat Rentals

Exploring the Gulf is easy thanks to the multiple marinas in Englewood, Florida, that offer boat rentals. Lemon Bay Park & Environmental Center

Located between Englewood and Manasota Key, Lemon Bay Park spans over 200 acres of preserved nature, offering a completely different outdoor experience. Here, you’ll find shoreline trails, boardwalks, pine flatwoods with well-maintained walking trails, scrub habitats, butterfly gardens, and educational exhibits at the nature center. As part of the Florida Birding Trail, it’s a favorite spot for birdwatching, and bald eagles are regularly seen there.

The park, located at 570 Bay Park Boulevard in Englewood, is free to visit and open daily from 6:00 am until sunset. Oh, and dogs are permitted here as long as they are leashed.

Cedar Point Environmental Park

This coastal preserve is a 115-acre park offering boardwalk trails through mangroves and salt marshes, with views of Lemon Bay. It’s peaceful, scenic, and ideal for slowing down, making it one of the quieter things to do near Englewood, FL, and, unsurprisingly, renowned as Charlotte County’s flagship environmental park.

The park’s sweeping views of Lemon Bay truly are an Englewood attraction worth visiting. You can access for free, but leave both your dog and your bicycle at home as neither is permitted.  However, it is a great place to bring the kids for a hike, and there are restroom facilities at the nature center for convenience.  Just remember to be cautious of alligators when approaching shorelines!

Manasota Scrub Preserve

For a more rugged hiking experience, Manasota Scrub Preserve provides quiet trails through native scrub habitat. The preserve spans around 50 acres and is home to some of Florida’s most unique wildlife, including the rare Florida Jay Scrub and the Gopher Tortoise. It’s a great way to experience Old Florida landscapes without crowds and appreciate how we can live alongside conservation efforts.

This dog-friendly park is ideal for hiking, spotting native wildlife, or just hanging out on the benches and enjoying a slower pace surrounded by nature. It’s located at 2695 Manasota Beach Road. There is no admission fee, and it offers limited but free parking.

Englewood Golf Courses

Outdoor enthusiasts will be happy to hear that there are plenty of ways to enjoy the scenic spots in Englewood, not least the impressive number of lush green golf courses in the area. The area is home to more than ten public and semi-private courses that remain playable year-round.  

Boca Royale Golf & Country Club is one of the best-known, offering golf alongside tennis, pickleball, croquet, and dining, all set within a lush, Old Florida landscape. For many residents, golf is a key part of what makes Englewood such a relaxed, active lifestyle.

And while the beaches get most of the attention, Englewood has a wonderfully down-to-earth community vibe tucked just inland. If you wander over to the historic heart of town, you’ll find Englewood’s downtown and local culture on full display. This is where the town’s personality really shines.

Dearborn Street (Olde Englewood Village)

Englewood, Florida, downtown revolves around historic Dearborn Street, where local shops, galleries, coffee spots, and restaurants create a walkable, community-focused atmosphere. Live music can be found most nights of the week, small events throughout the year, and seasonal events like Cruisin’ on Dearborn bring classic cars, crowds, and energy to the streets.

Englewood Farmers Market

Held weekly from October through May, the Englewood Farmers Market takes place right in Englewood, Florida downtown, on the 300 Block of West Dearborn St. It’s an incredibly lively market that showcases local produce such as fruits and vegetables, baked goods, herbs, and even jerky, as well as artisans and creative stalls, every Thursday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.  It’s free to attend, and it has such a great vibe that it made it onto our list of top farmers’ markets in the Sarasota and Venice areas.

Lemon Bay Playhouse

Also located downtown, Lemon Bay Playhouse is a local community theater that offers live performances year-round, as well as drama classes and summer camps. It’s a fairly intimate setting, and the reasonable ticket prices make it a popular option for local entertainment and an enticing Englewood attraction. Showtimes and ticket prices vary by production, and tickets can be purchased in person or online.  

Dining: Best Restaurants in Englewood, Florida

Englewood’s dining scene is precisely what you’d expect from a relaxed Gulf Coast town: friendly, flavorful, and perfect for breezy, beachy evenings out. When people talk about the best restaurants in Englewood, Florida, a few local favorites always come up.

On Manasota Key, SandBar Tiki & Grille is the go-to for live music, open-air seating, and that laid-back tiki vibe that makes you want to stay. It’s steps from Englewood Beach, so it’s a natural stop after a day in the sun.

For an upscale-but-still-relaxed experience, Farlow’s on the Water is one of our personal favorite restaurants in Englewood. Sitting slightly inland along a quiet canal, Farlow’s blends Southern comfort with Caribbean inspiration, creating a menu that feels both vibrant and comforting. It’s an excellent pick for date nights or any time you want something a little special.

Back on the Gulf side, The Waverly offers beautiful décor and sunset views, while Lock ’N Key delivers classic coastal dishes and a friendly, come-as-you-are atmosphere. Both make excellent choices for casual dinners, family outings, or brunch with a view.

Mango Bistro, just off Dearborn Street, is a long-time favorite for its eclectic menu and welcoming atmosphere. It has a French flair and a mouth-watering smoothie bar.

Visit Wellen Park

Just a few minutes’ drive from Englewood, Wellen Park has quickly become one of Southwest Florida’s most exciting lifestyle destinations. Even though the Wellen Park neighborhoods are gated, Downtown Wellen Park is entirely open to the public. That means anyone can enjoy its shopping, dining, beautiful outdoor spaces, and year-round calendar of events and festivals. It’s a fun contrast to Englewood’s quieter vibe, giving residents easy access to a vibrant, activity-filled hub whenever they want a change of pace.

Head north to Venice, Florida, to explore historic downtown streets known for Italian-inspired architecture and beautifully landscaped boulevards. It’s a lovely change of pace and a favorite outing for Englewood locals looking for a little extra shopping, dining, or people-watching.

Downtown Venice is filled with boutiques, cafés, bookstores, and outdoor patios, all arranged along a thoughtfully designed grid that invites you to stroll. The city hosts frequent events, festivals, and art fairs throughout the year, and it’s easy to combine a downtown adventure with a stop at one of Venice’s nearby beaches, where you can discover why it’s known as the Shark Tooth Capital of the World.

Sharky’s on the Pier and the Venice Fishing Pier are two of the most recognizable landmarks on the Gulf Coast. Sharky’s offers beachfront dining, tropical drinks, and some of the best sunset views in the region, all right next to the long, scenic pier that stretches out over the water. And for anyone visiting during this time, it’s the perfect opportunity to get an authentic taste of the region, the local culture, and the welcoming community vibe that makes Southwest Florida so special.

Venice is packed with things to do all year long, but fall marks the start of festival season, bringing a whole new energy to the area’s already lively calendar. 

Recurring & Regular Events in Venice, FL

From longtime favorites like the Venice Farmers Market and Friday Night Concerts in the Park to seasonal festivities like Haunted History tours and the Downtown Halloween Strut, something is happening nearly every weekend.

Venice Centennial 2025 — The City Turns 100

2025 marks a milestone for this little slice of paradise — Venice is turning 100 years old! The city plans to spread the celebrations over 18 months, incorporating events, art installations, lectures, contests, and surprises into the regular festival calendar.

The Centennial kicks off this fall with the 2025 Holiday Parade & “All Aboard the Centennial” theme on November 29, 2025, in downtown Venice. 

Over the coming months, you can look forward to special events, including “Together Through Time: Venice at 100” (a gala dinner and program), the unveiling of the John Nolen statue, and new art installations throughout the town. The Venice Centennial Lecture Series and exhibits like Venice Turns 100! will run regularly at the Venice Museum & Archives and in local libraries. 

The city is also seeking community involvement, partnerships, and volunteer opportunities to help shape and celebrate the Centennial.  Additionally, you’ll see some of your favorite festivals receive a little extra sparkle, and new celebrations will be added to the mix. Sun Fiesta October 17–19, 2025

The iconic Sun Fiesta is Venice’s biggest fall tradition, and one of the most beloved community festivals in all of Southwest Florida. You’ll find a huge arts & crafts fair, live music on stage throughout the weekend, food and drink vendors, a lively parade, and even the famous bed races down Venice Avenue.

This event has been running strong since 1994 and has become one of the most anticipated October events in Venice, and it’s still offering free admission (yes, thank you!). It’s the perfect blend of small-town charm and big-festival fun, all for good causes within the community. Parking can be tight downtown, so consider arriving early or carpooling with friends.

Haunted 5K, 10K, Half & Full Marathon October 4, 2025

Get your running shoes (and costumes) ready for this spooky-fun race series. Whether you’re a serious runner or just in it for the medal and the memories, the Haunted Run features scenic courses, themed gear, and plenty of Halloween spirit.

Downtown Venice Halloween Strut October 31, 2025

This is one of the most family-friendly Halloween traditions in the area. Kids (and often adults) in costume parade through downtown as local businesses hand out candy. 37th Annual Downtown Venice Art Festival November 1–2, 2025

Every fall, the streets of downtown Venice turn into an open-air art gallery. Hosted by Howard Alan Events and Venice MainStreet, this juried festival showcases artists from across the country. You can find everything from fine art and photography to ceramics, jewelry, and home décor.

Oktoberfest at Wellen Park, October 4, 2025

This fall favorite features polka music, bratwurst, beer tents, and classic Oktoberfest games, including the stein-hoisting contest. It’s lively, festive, and perfect for the whole family. This is the second year it has run, and it is set to be an annual favourite in the area. It’s free admission and at the top of our list for not-to-be-missed fun events in Southwest Florida. 

Wellen Park Spooktacular Halloween, October 31, 2025

This is exactly what it says on the tin – a kid-friendly Halloween celebration with trick-or-treating at local shops. But in true Wellen Park style, it’s even more fun with a live DJ, plenty of seasonal treats, and even a dog costume contest! You better believe our pooch, Hana, is excited about entering this, and boy, is she in it to win it! We might even be tempted to share a sneak peek of her costume on our social media page, so be sure to follow us to catch it. 

Wellen Park Wine Festival November 14–15, 2025

If you love wine, food, and good company, the Wellen Park Wine Festival is the event of the season. It kicks off on Friday, November 14, with the elegant ‘Five-Course Dinner with an Exclusive First Taste’ at Solis Hall. This intimate, upscale evening will feature perfectly paired culinary creations and pours from acclaimed vintners and is expected to sell out quickly. Gosh, it even sounds fancy in writing!

The Saturday offers a full day of wine-themed fun and education, including a Wine Class 101 and the main event, the ‘Grand Tasting’, with nearly 40 vintners, local food tents, and live entertainment. Tickets are essential, and as well as general admission, there is both a VIP option and designated driver reduction (Our commiserations if you’re on driving duty this time – we recommend you leave the car at home so you can join in on the delicious tasting!)

Thanks4Giving Tree Campaign October 5 – November 14, 2025

This community-driven program invites residents and visitors to donate grocery gift cards, which are distributed to local families in need. The initiative is run in partnership with Wellen Park Rotary Club and aims to feed over 100 local families. 

It’s so simple to get involved: collect a gift tag from the tree in the Wellen Park Welcome Center (each one represents a family they hope to support), purchase a Publix gift certificate in the mount of your choosing (so great that there is no minimum amount so anyone can offer whatever they can), return your donation to the welcome center where your tag is hung on the tree to show festive progress. At the end of the campaign dates, meal packages are purchased and supplied to the number of families on the tag tree. It’s a great community project and a heartwarming way to give back to the local community during the season.

5th Annual Grilled Cheese Festival,  November 22, 2025

Cheese lovers, assemble! The Grilled Cheese Festival returns to CoolToday Park (the Braves’ Spring Training stadium in Wellen Park) for a full day of melty goodness, craft beer, and live music on the plaza. It’s free and family-friendly, with food trucks serving creative grilled-cheese combos (from classic melts to loaded gourmet builds), a beer garden with souvenir mugs, kids’ activities, and music. Water Lantern Festival October 25,  2025

The Water Lantern Festival at Nathan Benderson Park is one of the most magical fall events in Southwest Florida. Each October, this 600-acre lakeside park transforms into a breathtaking scene as hundreds of hand-decorated glowing lanterns drift across the water, each one carrying personal messages of love, hope, and remembrance.

It’s a beautiful, family-friendly evening filled with food trucks, live music, and a sense of calm community connection. Kids under eight get in free with a paid adult ticket (lanterns sold separately), and tickets often sell out early.

After the lanterns have floated away, keep the night going by grabbing dinner or drinks in town, or heading to PopStroke for a round of mini-golf under the lights.

Gulfcoast Pride Festival, October 25, 2025

Calling all reptile fans: Repticon Sarasota slithers back into town at the end of October, bringing with it a fascinating mix of scaly, slinky, and totally cool creatures. This family-friendly expo is part trade show, part educational adventure, and 100% fun for anyone who loves animals.

You’ll find vendors from all over Florida showcasing reptiles, amphibians, and exotic pets, plus everything you could ever need to care for them, from enclosures and feeders to unique reptile-themed merch. Even if you’re not planning to take home a new scaly friend, it’s a great way to learn about these amazing animals up close.

If you’re looking for something a little spooky but still totally family-friendly this fall, Lights at Spooky Point at Selby Gardens’ Historic Spanish Point campus in Osprey is the perfect pick. Every October, the gardens transform into a glowing Halloween dreamscape filled with twinkling lights, creative displays, and just the right amount of “boo.”

It’s a ticketed event with two entry times every day, so there’s plenty of opportunity to fit it into your schedule. Once there, you can wander the paths under the stars, spot pumpkins and ghosts tucked among the trees, and enjoy all the cozy Halloween vibes without the jump scares. Siesta Key Crystal Classic November 14–17, 2025

Fun on the beach isn’t just for summer! Every November, Siesta Beach turns into an outdoor art gallery as sand sculptors from all over the world compete in the Annual Siesta Key Crystal Classic Sand Sculpting Festival. Over four incredible days, 24 artists transform piles of that famous white Siesta Key sand into jaw-dropping masterpieces. Some of the displays are so impressive that they really make you forget they’re made from sand at all.

The festival isn’t just for watching, though. Spectators can join workshops, take sand-sculpting lessons, enjoy live music under the tent, and browse through 75 vendors at the Vendor Village, where they can find a variety of food, drinks, and souvenirs. On Saturday night, stick around for Sculptures After Dark, when the illuminated sculptures glow under colorful lights. It’s pure beachside magic.

If you’re feeling creative yourself, sign up for the Amateur Competition or cheer on contestants during the high-energy Quick Sand Contest. Englewood Beach Waterfest October 11–12, 2025

Get ready for high-speed thrills and beachside fun at Englewood Beach Waterfest, host of the APBA Offshore World Championship races on Saturday, October 11, and Sunday, October 12, 2025. This is the weekend when the Gulf roars as multiple classes of racing powerboats compete. According to the Race Weekend page, general admission tickets cover both full days of racing, so you won’t need to re-buy for Sunday. 

While the powerboats roar through the waves, on the sand you’ll find a Beach Oasis & Food Court with tents offering regional favorites, festival staples (think funnel cakes, popcorn, pretzels, ice cream), and a “Raceday cocktail” special for those who want something extra.

There’s also a Family Conservation Center, which is excellent for teaching kids (and adults!) about our marine and coastal ecosystems. If you’re into marine and conservation programming, that’s a fun stretch between races.

7th Annual International Culture Fest, October 25, 2025

Take a trip around the world without ever leaving Punta Gorda at the 7th Annual International Culture Fest. Holiday Lighting of the Village “Jingle & Jammies” November 15, 2025

The most anticipated event of the year in Punta Gorda is back, and this year’s theme is all about cozy cheer! The Holiday Lighting of the Village at Fishermen’s Village kicks off the holiday season with twinkling lights, festive fun, and a brand-new theme: “Jingle & Jammies.” Families are encouraged to arrive in their cutest and coziest pajamas for a night filled with contests, photo opportunities, and holiday magic.

For a little extra adventure, you can climb the historic Banyan Tree or pick out a pumpkin.

Beaches & Swimming

Stump Pass State Park is home to some of the most beautiful, unspoiled beaches in Florida. You can enjoy sunbathing, beachcombing, or taking a refreshing swim in the Gulf of Mexico. The beaches are less crowded, providing a more peaceful experience. Visitors can swim on both sides! So if the Gulf is rough with waves, you might go to the quieter Intracoastal side where it could be flat and calm!

Boating and Kayaking

If you enjoy boating and kayaking, this park is a paradise. You can explore the calm waters of Lemon Bay or paddle through the mangrove tunnels. Rentals and tours are available nearby, making it easy to get out on the water even if you don’t have your own equipment. For convenience, there is a kayak launch right at the main parking lot, so you only have to walk a few feet from your car to put in! And there are many areas throughout the park where you can paddle and then just pull up on the sand to relax for the day. In fact, boaters come from all over the area to enjoy the Intracoastal waters and park their boats for the day to hop off and explore at the park!

Hiking the Trails

The park features a 1.3-mile trail that leads you through natural habitats such as coastal hammocks and beach dunes. As you hike, you may encounter a variety of native plants and animals. The trail is well-marked and suitable for most fitness levels. Keep in mind that the sand is quite soft, which can make the trek tiring on the legs! And during peak times of the day in summer, the sand can get quite hot on your feet!

However, if you cut over to the beach areas you can walk on harder, wet sand which is much easier and cooler on your feet!

Fishing Opportunities

For anglers, the park provides excellent fishing spots. You can fish from the shore or venture out into the waters of the Gulf and Lemon Bay. Common catches include snook, redfish, and sea trout. Don’t forget your fishing license (which you can get here) and gear!

Wildlife Observation

Stump Pass State Park is a haven for wildlife observation. You can spot a variety of birds, including ospreys and pelicans. You’ll aalso find West Indian manatees, gopher tortoises, snowy egrets, least terns and magnificent frigate birds. During certain times of the year, you might even witness sea turtles nesting on the beaches. Bring your binoculars for a close-up view. There are also a number of tour operators near the park where you can sign up for dolphin tours and other types of wildlife watching around the park area. Ranger-led nature hikes are available in the winter.

There are also pavilions that can be reserved for larger gatherings. These pavilions come with additional seating and nearby trash disposal, making clean-up easy.

Restroom Accessibility

The park boasts clean and accessible restrooms. These facilities are strategically located near the picnic areas and parking spaces, ensuring that you are never too far from a restroom.

The restrooms are ADA-compliant, offering wheelchair access and spacious stalls. Hygiene is a priority, with frequent cleaning and restocking of supplies.

Additionally, there are showers available for rinsing off after a swim in the Gulf. These are located near the main restrooms and offer both hot and cold water options.

Parking Information

At Stump Pass parking options are limited. Close to the main entrance is a well-marked parking lot which is easy to navigate. However, it is fairly small and typically fills up fast! If Stump Pass parking lot is full you can park down the road at Englewood Beach and call Stumpy’s for a ride down to Stump Pass (a golf cart service that runs on tips). However, RV parking at Stump Pass is challenging because it is a small lot without much space. We recommend you park RVs down at Englewood Beach.

Stump Pass Beach State Park is open year-round, giving you ample opportunity to enjoy its natural beauty. The park operates daily from 8 a.m. until sunset. During peak seasons like spring and summer, it can get quite crowded, so arriving early in the morning is advisable if you prefer a quieter experience.

Holidays might affect these hours, so always check ahead before planning your visit. The facilities, including restrooms, are usually well-maintained, ensuring your visit is comfortable and enjoyable. Your pet is welcome – but ONLY on the main trail and around the main facilities. You cannot bring them on the beach. And they must be kept on a leash.

Entrance Fees and Passes

Visiting Stump Pass Beach State Park is affordable. The entrance fee is $3 for vehicles with up to eight people. If you’re arriving solo or on foot, expect to pay $2. Annual Florida State Park passes are also accepted here, which can be a great option if you’re a frequent visitor. [can you confirm this price, I think it’s right last time I checked]

Consider purchasing a family annual pass if you plan on multiple visits, as it offers unlimited access to all Florida State Parks. You can buy your pass online or at the park entrance. Note that fees are subject to change, so verify current rates before your trip.

Your safety is a priority at Stump Pass Beach State Park. Swimming is allowed, but there are no lifeguards on duty, so stay vigilant. Just off the U.S.-41 Bypass, on the Tamiami Trail, 3 Bridges Brewing has become a community hub where locals gather to savor the best of Venice’s craft beer scene in one of the favorite breweries in Sarasota County. Open 11 am to 10 pm daily, 3 Bridges invites families to come and join the fun, where the owners strive to give back to their community through good times and good beers! #1. Disney Springs

Many people don’t realize that access to Disney Springs is FREE! Even parking is totally free. The massive complex is home to several entertainment sources to keep visitors occupied. In fact, this is one of our favorite places to visit when we are in Orlando because it’s good, cheap fun. Plus, we love Disney!

At Disney Spring,s you really don’t have to spend anything! You can walk around and enjoy yourself soaking up all the atmosphere for free. Plus, window-shopping can be fun too!

During your visit to Disney Springs, you’ll have the opportunity to watch live performances on their outdoor stage for free. Or you may choose to buy a ticket for their amazing Cirque du Soleil show called “Drawn to Life” which was a custom production with Disney and a unique one-of-a-kind show. There is also Splitsville bowling alley, as well as a Fork and Screen where you can dine while you watch movies. And one of our favorite spots is the House of Blues where we’ve seen a number of great concerts (in fact, it’s one of our favorite live music venues in the area!).

But the main attraction here at Disney Springs is all the shops and restaurants. From a giant World of Disney Store, a Christmas store, and tons of other Disney-related merchandise stores. However, it’s not just Disney around here. There is a huge mall area with many popular stores including a Ron Jon Surf Shop, Tommy Bahama, Anthropologie, UNIQLO and more.

Then there are the restaurants — oh so many to choose from! We can’t even list them all, but trust us when we say you can find just about anything to eat here. One of our favorites is Raglan Road Irish Pub where you can also watch traditional Irish Dancers perform daily.

But again, just walking around to soak up the atmosphere here is a lot of fun. There are performers on various stages, especially in the evenings on the weekends. So you can easily just wander around and watch the shows, and let the kids run and play in the fountains – all totally free!

#2. Icon Park

Did you know you can visit ICON Park for free? Not only will admission cost you nothing, but parking is free, too! Of course, you can buy tickets to get on rides, but if you’d rather take a leisurely stroll around the park and enjoy the view, you can do that instead.

One of the most famous rides here at ICON Park is the giant wheel where you can get birds-eye views of Orlando. But our favorite thing about ICON Park are the restaurants and music venues. Places like Tin Roof and Sloppy Joes (the original is famous in Key West) are great spots to grab something to eat and then dance away to some great music.

It’s totally free to just wander around and soak up the atmosphere here at ICON Park. So you don’t have to spend anything to enjoy yourself and do a bit of people-watching.

#3. Celebration Town Center

If you’re looking for a way to spend the day without spending anything, then Celebration Town Center is worth visiting. Celebration is famous for being a “Disney Town” master-planned community. The town itself is worthy of a visit just to see all the architecture and perfectly manicured homes and streets. But the downtown Celebration area has plenty of fun things to do for free.

While there, you can take a stroll around the lake downtown, visit their weekly local farmers market, and even spend quality time with loved ones in the local park. Several walking trails in the area are perfect for getting exercise and enjoying fantastic views, such as the Lake Circle and Scenic Nature Walk trails. There are also playgrounds for the kids to enjoy and lots of shops to enjoy a bit of window shopping.

#4. Old Town (Kissimmee)

The Old Town Amusement Park in Kissimmee, Florida, is not far from Orlando and is actually right near Celebration Town. One of the things people love most about this park is that admission to it is free! So, even if you’re not a big fan of getting on rides, you can walk around and experience this local hot spot, watching others as they get on roller coasters and other thrilling rides. The amusement park is also most famous for hosting weekly car shows that are perfect for car enthusiasts!

#5. Lakeridge Winery (Clermont)

Have you always wanted to go on a wine tour? If so, now is your chance to do so. The Lakeridge Winery in Clermont offers complimentary tours of their winery, allowing guests to taste samples of their delicious selections. You might even find a bottle of wine you’d like to purchase and bring back home with you!

Clermont is just a short drive from Orlando and is a nice little getaway from all the busy touristy activities that you’ll find around Orlando.

#6. Lake Eola Park

Hang out at Lake Eola Park for a fun day in the sun. The clean, spacious park offers some of the most incredible views of downtown Orlando, making it an excellent spot to choose for an outdoor picnic. Besides having a picnic, you can bring games to play with the kids and take your furry friends along for the fun.

There is a great path that goes all around the lake that you can enjoy and plenty of green grass to relax. If you’re in the area during the holiday season, be sure to visit at night to see all the decorations and bright lights.

#7. West Orange Trail

The West Orange Trail is a fantastic paved trail perfect for walking, running, rollerblading or bike riding. The trail is 22 miles long and will take you through various towns near Orlando, including Apopka and Winter Garden. This is the perfect spot to visit if you’d like to experience nature at its finest while getting some exercise for the day. In fact, when I lived in Orlando years ago I really loved spending a nice afternoon enjoying the West Orange Trail with friends, whether we were biking or rollerblading.

#8. Visit Local Markets

There are many local markets that take place in and around Orlando every week. So if you are looking for something free to do, then check out one or more local farmers’ markets throughout the area, such as the Longwood Farmers Market or the Lake Mary Farmer’s Market. If you’re planning to visit these hot spots to see what they’re offering, pay attention to the time because some open and close earlier than others. For example, the Longwood Farmers Market is open until 3 PM on Saturday, while Lake Mary is open until 1 PM.

#9. Take a Brewery Tour

Have you ever wondered what goes into the beer brewing process? If so, you can find out during a tour at Orlando Brewing! Free tours are available Monday through Saturday at 6 PM. After watching the brewing process, you’ll get an opportunity to taste-test some of the freshly brewed beers.

*NOTE – the current Orlando Brewing is moving locations and is scheduled to reopen Fall 2022. Be sure to check their website and social pages for information about the new location and opening date.

However, there are many other breweries in Orlando too. And some of them offer free tours as well. If you haven’t been on a brewery tour or tasting, then it’s definitely something to check out and a nice inexpensive way to spend an afternoon.

#10. Leu Gardens (Free First Monday of the Month)

Leu Gardens is the spot to visit when you want to experience nature’s beauty at its finest. This spacious garden has an impressive selection of gorgeous flowers, plants, and shrubs. While there is typically a charge for entry to Leu Gardens, they offer free admission on the first Monday of each month! Visiting the gardens on a Monday is a really nice way to enjoy yourself without spending a dime!

#11. Movies in the Park

The Enzian Theater (which is a really fun place anyway) hosts something known as Popcorn Flicks in the Park. Guests are welcome to bring their favorite blankets and snacks before securing a spot in Winter Park to sit comfortably with loved ones while watching a family-friendly film!

The park provides the film for families on the second Thursday of every month, so mark it on your calendar because you don’t want to miss the fun and excitement.

#12. Cranes Roost Park

Not far from Orlando in Altamonte Springs, Florida, you have the wonderful Cranes Roost Park, a well-maintained, naturally beautiful park that hosts free, family-friendly events each month, including movie nights! It’s the perfect place to visit with the family. In addition to the special events, visitors of Cranes Roost Park can head off on a journey through the walking path and watch the plaza fountain show.

#13. Orlando Public Library

You can never go wrong with a trip to the Orlando Public Library. You can easily find several libraries throughout the city, many of which host special events and activities for children and adults. It’s a great spot to take the kids while encouraging them to select books they’d like to rent and read at home. About John Ringling and the Ringling Circus

John Ringling, a self-made entrepreneur, found success as one of seven Ringling Brothers. As one of the brothers, he agreed to collaborate with the Barnum & Bailey Circus to bring something incredible to people across the country through the art of travel circuses. He played a significant role in helping turn the circus into what it has become today, something families look forward to visiting when they want to see fun and adventure live and in front of their faces.

Choosing to combine two circuses into one for a truly remarkable, one-of-a-kind experience for viewers, the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey debuted their new circus at Madison Square Garden for spectators to watch and enjoy. The move would change everything within the circus world as they knew it and quickly led to the Ringling Brothers becoming known as the Circus Kings, John included.

Sarasota – Winter Home of the Ringling Circus

Nearly 100 years ago, John Ringling decided it was the perfect time to transport the circus, known as The Greatest Show on Earth, from its original winter home in Bridgeport, Connect, shifting it to the beautiful, warm area of Sarasota, Florida. It was during a time when John and his wife, Mable, were investing in real estate in the area, ultimately falling in love with everything about the beautiful city of Sarasota.

While it was a huge decision to make, it benefited John Ringling and the winter circus as it became the biggest attraction in the city, capturing the attention of many and turning Sarasota into the place to be during the winter.

What to See at the Ringling Museum

When visiting the Ringling Museum, you can expect to see and learn a lot. From the impressive gallery full of fantastic artwork to the tour of the Ca’d’Zan Mansion and so much more, you’ll spend hours gaining valuable new knowledge and discovering all the hidden secrets and exciting tidbits about the circus world.

Here are some of the exhibits you can enjoy, and our thoughts about them from our own visit!

Circus Museum at the Ringling

The Circus Museum at the Ringling is one of the best spots to visit during a trip! Honestly, I was a super interested in this at first. But after popping into the exhibit, I can say that this was one of the COOLEST exhibits! We loved it and found the whole collection absolutely fascinating!

The interactive museum has something for everyone, whether traveling alone, with other adults, or with the children. Have a fantastic time learning more about the history of the circus while trying your luck at walking on a wire or squeezing yourself into the bright-colored clown car. Get an inside look at some of the most stunning costumes worn by performers throughout the decades and even review the archives to learn more about past performances and how they’ve changed over the years.

There were so many fun things to explore and interact with at the circus museum. PLUS — they have seriously the coolest gigantic dioramas that show the massive scale of the production when the circus came to town. I knew it was a big deal back in the day, but this really put it into perspective. It was like building an entire town…and then picking it up to move it, and build it again somewhere else!

Do NOT miss the diorama room. You can walk all the way around and it actually takes quite a while. But it is really cool to see. 

Ca’d’Zan (House of John) – AKA “The Ringling Mansion”

Would you like to see what it was like living in luxury as a circus leader? If so, you’ll want to stop by the Ca’d’Zan, a place that John and Mable Ringling once called home. Despite their relatively humble beginnings in life, the two would eventually live a life of luxury. The mansion was first built in the 1920s and quickly became the coveted winter home for the couple, who spent most of their winters beating the cold weather by living in this beautiful mansion.

The Mediterranean-style mansion takes up roughly 36,000 square feet, with more than 50 rooms sprawled throughout the property, and is quite the sight to see. Get a feel for how the Ringling couple lived their lives with a tour of this spacious, stunning mansion with its incredible architecture and interior design.

John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art

Another fantastic sight to see during your trip to Sarasota is the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art. Long before his death, John Ringling became a collector of artwork who found inspiration and joy in such astonishing pieces crafted by artists across the country. Meeting Mable, someone as enthusiastic about art as him, was like a dream come true.

The couple would eventually spend time attending auctions and bidding on different pieces, including tapestry and paintings, amassing an impressively large collection of artwork to use around their home. Now, much of that artwork is displayed for the rest of the world to see at the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art. If you’re an art enthusiast looking forward to seeing thought-provoking pieces that can leave you inspired, this is the museum to visit.

How Long Does It Take to Visit the Ringling Museum?

A trip to the Ringling Museum can take several hours, at minimum. It really depends on how much you want to explore.  You could just make a quick trip of it, but if you really want to soak in the circus museum, mansion and also the art museum, then I think you do need the better part of a day.

If anything, plan to spend 3-4 hours minimum, just to ensure you aren’t super rushed. Still, I think you could spend even more time if you prefer.

Will Kids Enjoy the Ringling Museum?

Many kids will enjoy certain aspects of visiting the Ringling Museum. In particular, the Circus Museum is a really fun area. There are lots of colorful costumes and also many interactive exhibits, including some videos too. While the Ringling Mansion and Art Museum may be of less interest to children.

When the kids get restless there are open grassy park-like areas in between the various exhibit buildings where the kiddos can work out some of their energy. The David F. Bolger Playspace is a playground area on the property with slides, swings, and fountains too.

Is There Food Available at the Ringling? Or Can I Bring a Picnic?

Coolers are allowed if you’d prefer to save money and pack a lunch (just not during special events). Because you can expect to be there for quite a while, consider packing some snacks for the kids.  The Dwarf Garden is a great place to set up a picnic and enjoy a break from exhibits.

But there are also multiple food options onsite around the property. You can visit Mable’s Coffee and Tea to grab a quick sip and a bite to eat or you can stop by The Ringling Grillroom, The Ringling Concessions, and The Wandering Chef Food Truck.

How Much Do Tickets Cost to Visit the Ringling & How Can You Buy Tickets?

Museum admission tickets cost $25 for adults, $23 for seniors at least 65 years old and up, $5 for children between the ages of 6 and 17, and are completely FREE for anyone five and under. Special discounts are available for military members, college students, and Florida state teachers. If you fall under one of these categories, you can enjoy access to the museum at a reduced price!

You can buy tickets directly on the Ringling website HERE, and we recommend you do because it makes it much easier and you can skip any line when you arrive.

Special Events & Free Museum Mondays!

There are many special events held at the Ringling throughout the year. Be sure to check their website for more information. Also, if you are looking to save some money you can visit the Ringling on Mondays when the Museum of Art and Bayfront Gardens are open to the public free of charge!

However, if you want to visit the Mansion or the Circus Museum, those still have regular admission fees even on Mondays.

Where Is the Ringling Museum in Sarasota?

The Ringling Museum is located in north Sarasota along the bayfront at 5401 Bay Shore Rd in Sarasota, FL. It’s actually nearby the Sarasota-Bradenton airport as well as several local attractions and hot spots, including Sapphire Shores Park, Stephens Point, the New College of Florida, and the Sarasota Jungle Gardens.

The museum is just a short drive north of downtown Sarasota, and a bit further from popular visitor hotspots like Siesta Key (which is south of downtown Sarasota).  Wherever you plan to stay, the Ringling is pretty convenient to get to from any part of town.

On average, prices for camping at Florida state parks range from $18 to $36 per night, and entrance to most Florida state parks costs between $5 and $6 for multi-occupant (2-8 people) vehicles and just $4 for single-occupant vehicles.

Northern Florida and Panhandle

Florida Caverns State Park

Located in the Florida Panhandle, Florida Caverns State Park offers 1,500 acres of natural beauty, as well as 38 tent and RV-friendly campsites. Most of these sites have electricity, water, sewer hookups, a picnic table, an in-ground grill, and a campfire ring. Florida Caverns State Park camping costs $20 per night, and the campground offers restrooms with showers. There are even equestrian sites and stables available for visitors who come with their horses.

Of course, the campground is a perfect lodging option for those planning on taking a cave tour of the Florida caverns. Cave tours are provided daily, but there is a limit of 25 visitors per day, so be sure to call and reserve in advance. The area also offers biking, horseback riding, boating, and more. 

Falling Waters State Park

Falling Waters State Park is not only home to the state’s highest waterfall but is also an excellent camping area. Pine Ridge Campground is located at one of the highest elevations in Florida: 324 feet above sea level. The campground’s 24 campsites are all equipped with a picnic table, water, electricity, and a campfire ring. You will also find restrooms, shower facilities, and a dumping area on the grounds. Campsites cost just $18 per night. 

Falling Waters State Park camping also gives you the chance to visit a historic site. Here you can see the remnants of the first oil well drilled in Florida. Of course, you can’t miss the highest waterfall in Florida, the 73-foot Falling Waters Sink, which drops into the unknown depths of the sinkhole. Aside from checking out the waterfall, visitors can enjoy fishing and swimming in the park’s two-acre freshwater lake or birdwatching and wildlife viewing in the park’s protected natural areas. 

Suwannee River State Park

Suwannee River State Park camping offers a great getaway for people looking to enjoy a relaxing stay along the river. Located just northeast of Twin Rivers State Forest, this Florida state park has 30 shaded campsites which are all equipped with electricity, water, sewer hookups, a campfire ring, and a picnic table. The campground also offers on-site restrooms, shower facilities, and a dumping area, and sites cost $22 per night.  

You will want to take advantage of the Suwannee River during your stay, where you can enjoy boating, fishing, and paddling. Additionally, birding and hiking are other excellent activities in the area. Visitors can also venture to the historic Sandhill Trail cemetery, which contains the only remains of the forgotten town of Columbus.

Henderson Beach State Park

Enjoy the 30-foot sugar-white sand dunes at Henderson Beach State Park by staying at one of the park’s 60 campsites. Each site is tent and RV-accessible and equipped with electricity, water, a picnic table, an in-ground grill, and a clothes line post. There is a dump station at the campground, along with climate-controlled restrooms, shower facilities, washers, dryers, and vending machines. Henderson Beach State Park camping costs $30 per night, and the campground is pet-friendly. 

Aside from visiting the beautiful sand dunes that the park is known for, Henderson Beach State Park is also an excellent destination for fishing fanatics, hikers, and those looking to enjoy the sun and sand of the Gulf Coast. The park is located near Destin, Florida, which is one of the state’s most popular northern destinations thanks to its emerald green waters, sprawling golf courses, and world-famous fishing reputation. 

Grayton Beach State Park 

If enjoying the beautiful Florida coastline is what you’re looking for, Grayton Beach State Park camping is just what you need. With one of the most beautiful beaches of any of the campgrounds on our list, this park boasts 59 campsites equipped with water and electricity. Some sites have sewer hookups, and you can camp with either a tent or an RV (maximum RV length 40 feet). You can practically wake up right on the beach for just $30 per night. 

What makes this campground so special is its proximity to the beautiful Grayton Beach, with its white sand and crystalline Gulf waters. When you’re not lounging on the beach, you can ride bikes around the 4.5 mile trail that winds through the surrounding forest. Or paddle canoes or kayaks around the 100-acre Western Lake, which is a picturesque dune lake surrounded by the park’s natural environment. 

Anastasia State Park 

Located on the north end of beautiful Anastasia Island, this 1,600 acre state park has an especially large camping area, with 139 tent/RV sites.  Entrance to the park costs $8 per multi-occupant vehicle and $4 for single-occupant vehicles, and Anastasia State Park campsites cost $28 per night. All sites have electricity, water, a picnic table, an in-ground grill, and a campfire ring. Sites are located a short walk or bike from the beach, and some are even paved.

One of the best parts about Anastasia State Park camping is your proximity to St. Augustine and St. Augustine Beach. Take a quick trip into downtown St. Augustine (which is located less than three miles from the park) and visit the historic Castillo San Marcos fort. And located right next to the park is the St. Augustine Lighthouse and Maritime Museum. About three miles south of the camping area you will find St. Augustine Beach, a picturesque Atlantic coast getaway. 

Central Florida and Coasts

Blue Springs State Park

Perhaps the best spot on our list for manatee lovers, Blue Springs State Park camping offers a refreshing and serene getaway. The park has 51 tent/RV campsites, each of which is equipped with a picnic table, water, electricity, and a grill. The campground has a dump site for RVs and pets are welcome. Sites cost $24 per night. 

Blue Springs State Park is perhaps best known for its abundance of manatees. It is estimated that there are over 500 of these gentle giants meandering the warm waters of Blue Spring, and visitors can spot the animals by hiking along the spring run or the 4.5-mile Pine Island Trail. 

Other activities in the area include a St. Johns River boat cruise, paddling, swimming, and even scuba diving. However, all water activities are prohibited during the winter season (approximately November through March) in order to provide a safe refuge for the manatees. Subsequently, the best time to spot manatees is during the coldest months of the year. 

Wekiwa Springs State Park

Located some 20 minutes north of Orlando, Wekiwa Springs State Park is another refreshing Central Florida getaway. Set up camp at one of the park’s 60 sites, which offer water, electricity, a fire ring, and a picnic table. Some sites have a sewage hookup for RV campers, but there is also a dump station at the campground. You can find restrooms and showers conveniently located near the sites, and Wekiwa Springs State Park camping costs just $24 per night. If you prefer a more rustic (and affordable) option, primitive sites cost just $5 per person per night. 

Wekiwa Springs is perhaps most famous for its emerald-clear fresh waters, where visitors can fish, paddle, snorkel, and swim. But if you’re looking for alternative activities on land, you have plenty of options. Bike around the off-road bicycle path, head out for a hike, or saddle up and go horseback riding along the park’s eight miles of riding trails. 

Hillsborough River State Park

For those who enjoy water adventures, Hillsborough River State Park camping won’t let you down. Hillsborough River has some of the only class II rapids in Florida, so grab your canoe or kayak and paddle downstream. There are 112 sites at the campground, most of which offer electricity hookups. All sites are equipped with water, a fire ring, and a picnic table, and there are various restroom and shower facilities located around the campground. Sites cost $24 per night, and the campground allows pets, as long as they are leashed. 

Aside from paddling down the rapids, visitors can bike and hike the park’s various trails, fish in the river, and view diverse wildlife. If you would like to get out on the water, be sure to bring your own canoe or kayak, as rentals are not currently offered at the park. 

Rainbow Springs State Park

Rainbow Springs is another Central Florida oasis. With its sapphire-blue waters and beautiful gardens, this park is the perfect inland getaway. The park’s campground is located a few miles from the main spring area, and all sites have electricity, water, and sewer hookups. The sites are suitable for both tent and RV camping, with a max RV length of 103 feet! The Rainbow Spring State Park camping area is equipped with a store, restrooms, shower and laundry facilities, and a playground, and the campground is pet-friendly. 

If you would like to paddle down the springs, you can rent a canoe or kayak at the campground’s store. You can also swim, snorkel, and tube in designated areas (tubing is only allowed on the weekends from April until the end of September). While you’re not enjoying the clear blue waters of Rainbow Springs, stroll through the park’s beautiful gardens, pack a picnic, and keep an eye out for native birds and wildlife.  

Southern Florida and The Keys

Myakka River State Park

As you head farther down south, you can find some excellent Florida state parks that are sure to provide you with the perfect setting for a camping getaway, starting with Myakka River State Park. The park is located at just a half hour’s drive from Sarasota and is in fact one of Florida’s largest state parks, spanning some 37,000 acres. It is also one of Florida’s oldest parks, and the area is known for its beautiful river, lake, and wetlands. 

Myakka River State Park camping is varied, and the park offers three separate campgrounds with a total of around 90 campsites. Sites are equipped with electricity, water, a picnic table, and a fire ring, and select sites have a sewer hookup, though the park has a designated dump site as well. Myakka River State Park camping costs $26 per night, but if you are fine roughing it, you can set up camp at one of the park’s primitive sites, which only cost only $5 per person per night. There are six primitive campgrounds located along the park’s hiking trails. 

The park offers plenty of water activities for visitors, including boating, fishing, and paddling. If you would rather check out the park by foot, explore the 38.9-mile hiking loop, or feel free to bring your horse and set out on the 12 miles of designated riding trails. 

Oscar Scherer State Park

Oscar Scherer State Park is located about six miles from Venice, and this nature preserve offers an unexpected oasis among buildings and pavement. Nestled between U.S. Route 41 and Interstate 75, the park is an excellent birding destination, as it is an invaluable refuge for the Florida scrub-jay. Visitors can also enjoy activities like biking, fishing, hiking, swimming, and paddling (though canoe and kayak rentals are currently unavailable). 

The park has 104 tent/RV sites, all of which have water, electricity, a picnic table, and a grill. The campground is equipped with restrooms, showers, and laundry facilities as well. Oscar Scherer State Park camping costs $26 per night, and you should note that the maximum RV length is just 36 feet.  

Highlands Hammock State Park

Heading even further inland we will find Highlands Hammock State Park, the state park with the greatest quantity of rare and endemic species in all of Florida. This old-growth cypress swamp is an excellent place to view wading birds, raptors, migratory birds, songbirds, and other wildlife, such as otters, deer, alligators, and more. Visitors can also bike around the park’s 3-mile paved loop, hike around one of the park’s nine trails, or take a guided tram tour to explore the park and its fauna. 

Highlands Hammock State Park camping is great for both tent and RV camping. Each site has water and electricity, and the campground offers a dump site, restrooms with showers, and laundry and dishwashing facilities. Sites cost $22 per night.  

Sebastian Inlet State Park

Perhaps one of the best parks on our list for beach lovers, Sebastian Inlet State Park camping offers a peaceful Atlantic Ocean getaway. Entrance to the park costs $8 per multi-occupant vehicle and $4 for single-occupant vehicles. The park’s campground is centrally located, and the beach is within walking distance. Sites each come with water, electricity, a picnic table, and a fire ring with a grill. Pitch a tent or park your RV for just $28 per night. 

While at the park, there are plenty of things to do to keep busy. Cyclists will enjoy the 40-mile paved bike path, and there are also three mountain biking trails located within the park. Sebastian Inlet State Park also has various boat launches, and you can even head over to the Gulf Stream, which is located less than 30 miles from the Sebastian Inlet. The area is also known for its excellent fishing conditions, and water lovers can rent canoes or kayaks from the marina. Snorkeling and scuba diving are also permitted in the park’s waters.  

Collier-Seminole State Park

Spanning over 70,000 acres, Collier-Seminole State Park lies within one of the largest mangrove swamps in the world. Here you will be able to observe flora and fauna typical of the Florida everglades, and the park is also the site of a National Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmark: The Bay City Walking Dredge. Collier-Seminole State Park camping is convenient and comfortable, and sites come with water, electricity, a grill, and a picnic table. 

The campground also offers a dump station, restrooms, showers, and laundry facilities. There are 105 campsites in the park, and you can tent or RV camp for just $22 per night, though certain sites are designated for tents, pop-ups, and hammocks. There are also primitive campsites that are only accessible via hiking trails or canoe. 

While at the park, bike around the offroad Prairie Hammock Trail, take a guided canoe trip on the Blackwater River, or hike one of the park’s four excellent nature trails. Hiking trail options range from between less than a mile to more than five miles, so there’s sure to be a suitable option for hikers of every age and ability. 

Bahia Honda State Park

Finally, if we head all the way down to the Florida Keys, we will find Bahia Honda State Park. Located along the southernmost tip of U.S. Highway 1, this beachside oasis offers some of the most spectacular views that you’ll get from any Florida state park. The park also has some of the best offshore snorkeling in all of the Florida Keys, and with depths of between four and six feet, even beginners can catch a glimpse at some native Florida marine life. 

Bahia Honda State Park camping is quite varied. The Buttonwood campground sites accommodate both tents and RVs, and they offer water, electricity, a picnic table, and a grill. There are a few sites located on the water, but they offer little shade. The Buttonwood campground also has a dump station and restrooms with shower facilities. 

The Bayside campground, the smallest of the park’s campgrounds, has only eight sites, none of which have electricity.  And pay close attention to your vehicle height: RVs (and vehicles in general) cannot exceed a height of 6 feet 8 inches, as they will have to pass under the Bahia Honda Bridge to access the campgrounds. Campsites cost $36 per night, and entrance to the park costs $8 per multi-occupant vehicle and $4 for single-occupant vehicles.

During the peak of summer, it can get scorching and quite humid all around Florida. When we say hot, we do mean hot. Thankfully, Florida is blessed with close proximity to beaches, rivers, springs, and oh so many stunning resort properties that are perfect for locals and vacationers!

Beyond just laying in the sun on some of the best Florida beaches or taking a dip in a swimming pool, Florida is a great place to go jet-skiing, parasailing, wakeboarding, paddleboarding, and there’s even some great snorkeling in Florida! The other major perk of being in Florida is that it’s a vacationer’s paradise. So there are a ton of water parks you can enjoy plus a number of hotels and resorts that you can visit which offer incredible pools for guests.

But one of our favorite ways to enjoy both the sunny weather and cool water is to float our cares away on a tube!

Where Can You Go Tubing in Florida?

In case you are unfamiliar, tubing is a type of water activity that entails riding atop a runner tube. Sometimes called donuts or biscuits, certain styles of these tubes can be used both in the water and on snow. However, we’re talking about tubing in the water…not snow tubing.

Although, snow tubing actually exists in Florida! But that’s a whole different topic altogether…

Tubing on the water in Florida is a popular recreational activity for residents and tourists because of the sheer number of options available.

Picture this: you on a day off, floating on a tube in one of Florida’s natural rivers, listening to the sound of birds chirping and taking in as much of the warm sun on your skin. Paradise! Truly, Florida tubing is a popular option for individuals who want to relax either in the calming surroundings of nature, or at a luxury resort!

Rainbow Springs State Park

Unlike the other rivers in this list, Rainbow Springs isn’t a wild river. You can expect a few houses during your float in this state park. Nevertheless, it is an aquatic reserve that is teeming with wildlife!

There are four locations within the Rainbow Springs State Park you can start your journey from. You can float anywhere from two to four hours in this river.

Blue Springs State Park

Tubing in Florida wouldn’t be complete without a mention of the Blue Springs State Park. This location is perfect for those who want to tube at a leisurely pace because of the wide nature of the river. It is the shortest tubing option in this list, but it is arguably one of the most enjoyable since you can almost guarantee a manatee sighting, during certain times of the year!

Ichetucknee Springs State Park

Ichetucknee Springs is one of the best tubing locations not only in Florida but throughout the continental US. Several things make this destination a must-see. Aside from its sheer natural cypress-lined beauty, the spring water in the area remains relatively clear as it runs through the entirety of the state park.

If you are jumping off from the northern end, you can expect to float through the park for three to four hours. Those who are more interested in a shorter trip can jump off from the middle point of the water.

Safety & Tips for Natural River & Springs Tubing in Florida

Tubing in these major Florida’s state parks and natural springs is generally considered quite safe. However, as with everything in nature, there are certain things that you simply cannot anticipate. At the end of the day, especially where your family is concerned, it is always best to err on the side of safety.

After deciding where you and your family wish to go tubing, here are some precautions you should take to ensure everyone’s safety:

1. Check the Weather Conditions

Weather can change rapidly, especially in the tropical climate of Florida. The last thing you want your summer vacation is to be stuck in the middle of a river waiting out torrential rain or caught in a lightning storm! Before making the trip, check online for thunder storm warnings in the area you are visiting. Likewise, once you are at your location, it is a good idea to stay on top of weather warnings with your smartphone and using a weather app.

2. Protect Your Phone & Valuables

We understand that you will probably want to take photos of your tubing experience and also, your phone is a lifeline in case of emergencies! But it’s important to be prepared to protect it because you never know what could happen. We highly recommend bringing a dry bag with you. We have a few of them and they are fantastic and not very expensive.

You can put your towel and other valuables in them and secure them in the waterproof bag. Then just hook the bag on you or your tube and it will essentially float the river with you! Another option is to buy a smartphone plastic pouch that you can wear around your neck like a necklace. These are sold at many beach shops around Florida and are a great option for keeping your phone safe and dry!

3. Refrain from Drinking Alcohol

There are very few river tubing destinations in Florida that allow alcoholic beverages while floating, mostly because a lot of these places are located in state parks and other designated recreation areas. This rule is probably for the best since nature can be a fickle mistress. You’ll want to have complete control of your faculties in case something goes awry out on the water.

4. Watch Out for Wildlife

For the most part, wildlife sightings are a welcome part of tubing in Florida. However, it is still better to keep your eyes peeled for wildlife that might strike at any moment. This includes, but is not limited, to alligators!

ALLIGATORS?!?!?

Yes, alligators are all over Florida. While alligators tend to avoid crowds of people, you never know and should always be aware. Many people enjoy water activities such as tubing in Florida and are perfectly safe. However, we always say in Florida that anytime there is water you should be prepared to see a gator.

5. Avoid Tubing With Open Wounds / New Tattoos

River water is safe – unless you have an open wound. The water is teeming with bacteria that can enter your body through tiny wounds in the skin. It is best to postpone a tubing trip after getting a tattoo or if you have any kind of recent open wound. Four weeks is the ideal time to wait it out. There are very few things that put a damper on tubing in Florida vacation than an infection.

6. Beware of No Lifeguards

Keep in mind that some of these rivers and state parks may not have lifeguards around you at all times. So it’s important that you and your friends / family are good swimmers and that you wear the appropriate lifejackets to ensure everyone stays safe. Some parts of the water can get deep, and it’s better to be safe than sorry.

7. Wear Bug Repellent

Being out in nature means that you are REALLY out in nature! And nature in Florida means mosquitos and other possible bugs!!! So it’s advisable that you wear bug repellent to help keep the bugs from ruining your trip down the river.

While visiting the state park, you can expect boats to be your primary transport. The park has provisions for daily boat trips that usually depart from the main marine point. Visitors can ride these boats to catch a glance of the reefs in proximity. They will also find a popular snorkeling spot in the park called Cannon Beach. This beach is widely loved by snorkellers far and wide for its sheer beauty and unbelievable underwater treasures.

2. Bahia Honda State Park (Florida keys)

Bahia Honda State Park is one of the best offshore snorkeling spots in the country. Covering an area of 500 acres, this park is one of the top destinations in this part of the middle to lower Keys. The park is packed with plenty of adventures, you can try beachcombing, snorkeling, and a range of other underwater sports here. If you want to experience the offshore snorkeling at the reef out at Looe Key, you will need your own boat or you can book a tour with the park and they will take you out on their boat for a truly memorable snorkeling experience!

3. Sombrero Beach – Marathon, Florida Keys

Often touted to be the rarest secret of Florida, Sombrero Beach may be best defined as a playground for local island goers. While other beaches around the area are known for the bars, the stunning sunsets, and the unbelievable underwater adventures, this one is rather popular for its swap-free zones, soft and warm sand, and of course the pristine clear waters.

The still beach waters make it a perfect spot for newbie snorkelers. It’s a quiet and tucked away beach that seems very much like you are in a local neighborhood (which you are). But you can easily follow the signs here from the highway. A bonus is that you can bring your dog on a leash here, a rarity in the keys!

5. Phil Foster Park – West Palm Beach

Located in the South-Eastern parts of Florida, this is yet another top snorkeling destination that doesn’t require you to travel via boat. As you visit this park, you will find a complete snorkeling trail lined with boulders and reefs. The best part: the spot also offers some of the best views of marine life and exotic sea fish. Whether it is starfish or octopus, this destination, houses them all. The water here is fairly shallow with an average depth of 10 feet and the highest possible depth of 20 feet.

The spot is surrounded by two beaches full of fish and the natural marine habitat. On the Western part, you will find the Blue Heron Bridge and there’s a small bridge to the east too. The tides here are likely to affect your visibility and overall access to some specific spots. That is why it is important to have a meticulously prepared plan before heading for a snorkeling trip here. You can either opt for a solo or a guided trip from the Blue Heron Bridge. You will also find scuba diving and snorkeling gear for rent here.

6. Red Reef Park – Boca Raton

A hidden gem, Boca is popular among residents and tourists alike. The defining element of this spot is the exquisite range of natural corals that are visible within 4 to 6 ft of the water. These rocks are frequented by exotic sea creatures like tangs, barracudas, and even sergeants. Thanks to these wonderful treasures, this spot stands out as one of the best beaches for shore snorkeling. The park is also beautifully decorated with hammocks, picnic tables, and a wide boardwalk.

7. Siesta Key Point of Rocks (Crescent Beach) – Sarasota

If you are looking to spot manatees, Siesta Key point is one of your top destinations. Studded by the rock formations from limestone, this destination is an absolute gem. In addition to manatees, you may also spot dolphins and some tropical fish. The water is shallow and absolutely calm during the mornings, allowing snorkellers ample visibility of the beautiful sea life. And being located on Siesta Key, home to some of the top beaches in the US, you can enjoy multiple beaches during your trip and the fun of Siesta Key Village on this popular island!

9. Peanut Island and Lagoon – West Palm Beach off Rivera Beach

Snorkellers with an avid interest in manatees, eels, and tropical fish will absolutely love the Peanut Island. In addition to the mentioned varieties of fish, you will also find barracuda and stonefish here.  There is no bridge to this island, but it’s quite easily accessible via a boat shuttle or if you have your own boat or kayak. There is gear for rent as well from the boat shuttle location. Snorkeling in the lagoon is perfect for families and children due to the calm shallow waters. They also have sunset and full moon paddle tours as well around the island!

10. Coral Cove Park – Tequesta

If a natural appeal is what you are fond of, Coral Cove Park won’t disappoint you. Known for its spectacular rock formations, this is one of the top destinations to snorkel near the Jupiter area. With its sprawling waters and picturesque views, this spot truly gives you the Caribbean vibe. Snorkelers will appreciate the calm waters and you may even be lucky enough to spot sea horses and stingrays.

11. Biscayne National Park

You can never truly enjoy the marine life of Florida without visiting the Biscayne National Park. This is one of the ideal destinations for snorkelers who want to explore near Miami. Visit this destination for offshore expeditions with a range of coral reefs, shipwrecks, and everything in between. Here, you will also have the option of choosing between government-run and privately organized snorkeling trips.

12. John D. MacArthur Beach State Park – North Palm Beach

Located in North Palm Beach, this is yet another top snorkeling spot. Thanks to its strategic location, the reefs are fully accessible from the shores. The best part: you won’t need to rent a boat to witness the underwater habitat. Almost three to four miles of pure shoreline adds to the beauty of this beach.

16. Dr. Von D. Mizzell-Eula Johnson State Park – Dania Beach

This is one of those snorkeling points that has a little bit of everything for everyone. If you’re looking to relax and wind down, go for a picnic or hang out in the BBQ zone. You can also walk along the trails lined by mangrove forests. Adventure seekers, on the other hand, can either try snorkeling or kayaking. The aquatic life here is pretty awesome. You can spot lobsters, sharks, and tropical fish. The beach covers almost two and a half miles and offers easy snorkeling options right across the shores. You may also enjoy diving along this part of the coast off shore too!

17. Indian Key State Park – Florida Keys (boat needed)

Snorkeling in the Florida Keys is some of the best you can find! Essentially, Indian Key is an island that can be quickly accessed via kayak/canoes, both of which can be easily rented from nearby Robbie’s Marina if you don’t have your own. As with most other Florida Key islands, this is a prehistoric coral reef-lined with sharp shores and ancient rocks that also double up as a home for exotic marine creatures.

4. Devil’s Den – Williston

Nestled in Florida’s Dry Caves, this underground spring was created from the meager remains of extinct species during the Pleistocene Age. Several archaeologists have also discovered remains of human bones that are approximately from 7,000 BC. The spring is widely popular among scuba divers. However, you will also notice newbie snorkellers frequent the spot. The underwater discoveries date back to prehistoric times and newbie snorkeling enthusiasts will have an absolutely great time here snorkeling in the crystal clear water!

8. Blue Grotto Dive Resort – Williston

Blue Grotto is the largest clear water cavern in Florida which is great for newbie and expert snorkelers alike. The cave is lined with beautiful rock formations that are further shrouded by a silt layer. As with most of the spots listed here, the waters offer plenty of visibility, so even if you are a scuba driver, you can find your way back with minimal assistance. The Blue Grotto gives you the memorable experience of snorkeling in a cave rather than the open ocean, with is a unique experience.

13. Rainbow River State Park – Dunnellon

The biggest takeaway of the Rainbow River is its super clear water. Yes! When you gaze at the water from your boat, you can see the entire boat including the sand lined bottom. The spot is popular for water activities, including tubing! Snorkellers too can spend their time swimming through the calm crystal blue spring-water and admiring the unique aquatic life. Rainbow River is also known for its massive otters who enjoy playing in the area too.

14. Ginnie Springs – High Springs

Easily navigable and spectacularly beautiful, Ginnie Springs is a privately owned snorkeling spot. This is a popular spring to go snorkeling in Florida where you can enjoy the Santa Fe River and the unique species of turtles and freshwater fish. 15. Silver Glen Springs – Salt Springs

Located just off the western part of Lake George and about 50 miles west of Daytona Beach, this spring is known for its clear waters of varying depths. The highest depth here is 25 ft, making it an ideal spot for snorkeling. Among sea creatures, you will find bass and varied species of turtles. Like several other springs of Florida, the water will have a consistently stable temperature of 72 degrees.
